Nrityagram - 25th Year of Celebration - Bangalore - August 2015

In May 2015, #Nrityagram Bangalore's very own dance village, turned 25. We started our 25th year with a small celebration and plans to host events through this special year. The idea is as much to celebrate our growth and achievements as it is to set a way forward for the next 25.

On August 18, 2015, the dancers of Nrityagram mark 25 years of dance and life through an evening of performances at Chowdaiah Memorial Hall. August 18 is a date of great significance because it was the day Nrityagram's founder, #ProtimaGauri disappeared in an avalanche.

That was in 1998. Now, 17 years on, Nrityagram finds itself at an important juncture in its history as a change-making dance institution and company.

Nrityagram's first batch of students have taken Protima Gauri's vision forward, adding their own dreams and aspirations to the mix. The #NrityagramDanceEnsemble is an internationally renowned dance company, creating original work in the Odissi idiom and touring it to great acclaim. Nrityagram continues to be a landmark tourist destination in Bangalore, introducing visitors to the classical arts in interactive ways. It is also a cultural catalyst in the region, bringing Odissi to thousands of village children in the Bangalore rural district through its 25-year-old weekend dance programme.

On August 18, 2015 students training at Nrityagram in its village, city and residential programmes and dancers of the ensemble will present glimpses of their life in dance in NrityaUtsarga, an evening of performance woven together by Nrityagram's artistic director #SurupaSen.

Please join us as we celebrate this landmark event.

Free Entry. Seating is first-come-first-served.
